Season Finale (10/3/05)

The 2005 racing season ends for S&T Racing at Lake Geneva with a fantastic Fall Classic weekend. Despite some mechanical issues and bad weather, the 109 posted it's best qualification ever and made it into the feature! The season ends on a high note as Michael secured a spot in the Top 20 in points!

"We want to thank our sponsors, Quality Auto Parts, for all their key support this year, as well as thank my Dad - Richard Shorten." Michael said. "We've had a lot of help as well, Mundelein Tire and Service, Signs Now, Victory Lane Motorsports, Jensen/Mundelein Disposal and best of all, my family and friends who supported me. I owe this great season to them."

Qualified: 12th - 21.849
Heat Race: 7th
Feature Race: 14th

S&T Racing announces changes for 2006 (9/9/05)

Changes are coming to S&T Racing next year! With the successful conclusion of our rookie year, we've decided to "graduate" to the next level and start racing in the Weapons Division at Lake Geneva Raceway in 2006.

We've already bought our new car.

This car has an excellent history - it has been the track championship car twice at 141 Speedway up near Green Bay. Jason Raban and his father sold the car to pay for college, and we're the lucky buyers! The car ran in the 141 "pure stock" division, so moving it to the LGR Weapons Division will be very easy.

"This move gives us the most flexibility" explained Michael Shorten. "There is a lot of uncertainty to the future of Lake Geneva Raceway and we know that in the next two to three years that it will close. Moving up to the Weapons gets us into the larger rear wheel drive cars now, and we can learn what we have to learn to be competitive at this level."

The move to the pure stocks also gives S&T Racing more flexibility in where they can race.

"We can, with minimal changes, race at Rockford, Grundy, Jefferson and even Wilmot." Michael said. "Best of both worlds - racing with the big boys and being able to race at multiple tracks."

Stay tuned as we prepare for yet another rookie year in a new division!

S&T Racing entertains and wins in the "Tour of Destruction" (9/9/05)

S&T Racing participated in the 2005 Tour of Destruction! There was exactly that, destruction aplenty in the wild trailer races, as well as tons of fun with the novelty races!

Michael Shorten teamed up with Pete Koenig (#2b) to win the first Tag Team Race!

They also teamed up and managed to eke out a 3rd place in the Train Race, entertaining a cheering crowd by pulling over a flipped middle car with some great teamwork on the track!

The Nissan Sentra 109 and Michael Shorten score their first career victory! (7/22/05)

The 109 charged from the rear of the first heat to the front in about 4 laps and held on to the win, despite two cautions that allowed competitors to catch up. With about a quarter lap lead, Michael took the checkered flag for the first win of his career!

April 2005

We're gearing up for a new season! With additional safety gear added to the car, some repairs and freshening, we're just about ready for the May 20th Friday night opener at Lake Geneva Raceway.

On a personal note, we'd like to take a moment to thank Richard Shorten, Michael's Dad, for all the sponsorship, support and help that he's provided us. This year is for you!

The final prep work before racing will be repainting the car! The 109 is going to be mean, black and green this year. Pictures as we get through it!

S&T Racing will be participating in the Mundelein 4th of July parade this year! We're calling on all local short track drivers to come out and get some support for our local short tracks! For more information, email Mike at mshorten@sandtracing.com.

March 2005

Although the Chicago area weather has been harsh, S & T Racing has been busy prepping the car for our full Rookie year at Lake Geneva and Illiana speedways. Practice days are just around the corner.

Most recently, we've installed a new roll cage and additional safety equipment to the car and have begun "freshening" the car for the upcoming season.

We've also just learned that Grundy County Speedway might be including a 4 cylinder division in their Friday night racing. Should this turn out to be true, we will definitely be adding Grundy to our list of practice tracks for April. We'll also look at running there during the year, if our current schedule permits it.

We are actively seeking sponsors for our race team. If you would like to promote your business across the Chicagoland area, please contact us!
