In Memory

On March 1st 2006, S & T Racing lost a very special family member, Viola M. Spaulding. She was 89 years old and the maternal grandmother to Michael Shorten.

Viola Spaulding was an example to us all of surviving despite tough odds, sticking with family and being true to a person's beliefs. She grew up during the 1920s Depression Era. She raised two children as a single mother - unheard of at the time - and during World War II. She worked in plants creating vacuum tubes for PT boats.

After WWII, she and her late second husband Alfred Spaulding crisscrossed the continental United States in support of his job. She was also a cancer survivor, being one of the first people to undergo colon cancer surgery in Cincinnati in the late 1960s.

Despite all of these hardships and struggles, she kept a high head and a wonderful sense of humor and love for her family. She leaves behind a set of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will no doubt be watched over by her in Heaven.

It is because of all of these things that we dedicate this 2006 season of racing in the memory of Grandma Spaulding.

May you rest in peace, Gramma - You've earned it.
